Leadership is Communication
What leader can be successful without clear communications? Strong influential leaders should practice clear communications in all media as follows: Leadership is communication.
- Verbal;
- Text;
- Email;
- Memos;
- Video conference; and
- Reports.
Proof reading tends to fall short in today’s fast paced business environments. Leadership cannot expand within an organization without clear communications. I identify four purposes for communications:
- Inform;
- Persuade;
- Remind; and
- Consult.
Great leaders will identify the purpose and create an objective for each communication. Clear communications cannot exist without a purpose and an objective. Follow up each communication to ensure the correct message is comprehended by the recipient. This goes a long way to ensure any misunderstandings and delays in expected responses and/or actions.
